Praised for his “graceful and attentive phrasing” by The Boston Musical Intelligencer, pianist Santiago Lomelín has won the hearts of audiences around the world. He was the first Latino pianist to be admitted to the Horowitz Piano Competition in Kiev, Ukraine, where he won the third prize. Santiago has performed as a soloist with Mexico’s leading orchestras, including the Aguascalientes, San Luis Potosi, Yucatan, and Jalisco orchestras, most recently in January 2023, when he performed Chopin’s Second Piano Concerto with the Orquestra Sinfónica de Xalapa. As a member of the ensemble Dulce de Trio, Santiago won a prestigious grant involving community outreach and performances around the city of Boston, culminating in a concert at the New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall. He is a prize winner at several competitions including the San Jose International Piano Competition in California and Parnassos in Monterrey, Mexico. He has played with esteemed musicians such as Donald Weilerstein, Dimitri Murrath, Jeremias Sergiani-Velázquez, and Katie Althen.

Santiago earned his Bachelor of Music degree with academic honors from the New England Conservatory as a student of Victor Rosenbaum. He earned his Master of Music and Professional Studies degrees with academic honors from Mannes School of Music, where he studied with Pavlina Dokovska and received the Steinway Award and the Marian Marcus Wahl Memorial Award. He is currently a doctoral candidate at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, where he studies with Vladimir Valjarević.

Santiago is an enthusiastic and dedicated music teacher. He maintains an active private piano studio in New York City and teaches online piano lessons to students around the world. He is currently a faculty member at Special Music School, which is the only professional pre-conservatory school for gifted children in the USA, the Lucy Moses School for Music and Dance, and the Bronx School for Music.
